2004 Dublin – Where it all began

 

Memories from Martin and James….

 

When driving to Howth golf club, we were unsure exactly where the golf club was so we stopped and asked a passer by – the conversation went something like – ‘ would you mind telling us how to get to Howth Golf Club’, the response was ‘ carry on down this road, there’s a turning on the right – don’t take it, then there’s a turning on the left – don’t take it, another turning on the right – don’t take that either. The next turning on the right – take that one!’ Obviously  just saying third turning on the right was too difficult for an irishman!!

Memories from Dave….

 

My first year on tour and what a start!!!

Landed at 8pm and the challenge was on to be in the bar by 9pm – we got there at 8.59! A few beers some Karaoke, shots that were as black as tar and it all went seriously downhill…..

Returned to the apartment at 6.30 in the morning – The evening and the rest of the tour will remain unwritten but that first night has to be the best night on tour! The next night I could not drink my golf was aweful but I had the bug – Kirky on tour since 2005

 

2006 Majorca

 

Memories from Martin…..

If Carlsberg could do cup finals!! You’ll recall the very elegant 5 star hotel where we played our last round of golf. In those days we flew home the evening if the last round. Therefore, I secured the TV in the Business centre and managed to find the Liverpool v West ham cup final with English commentary and started with the staffs help to get chairs carried through to the TV. Mr Stutchbury then came into his own and soon had the staff running around bring beers, Ham & Cheese toasties & chips all to the wonderment of the paying guests!! It wasn’t long before those guests were joining us too. 3 more stories for Majorca- Joe rolling down the hill blind drunk unable to get up – James unable to get back up the hill without the great help of Steve gray and Stutch having an altercation with a German on one of the courses which finished with two world wars and 1 world cup!!

 

2007 Algarve

 

I remember going into one bar in Albufeira Old Town which was bouncing until I got hold of the karoake with my cry of ‘Albufeira’, singing badly and not giving back the microphone – the bar emptied quickly and I was kicked out!!

 

2011 Valencia

 

Intermittent music system which Andy Phillips quickly turned into a spontaneous musical chairs competition to the amusement of the staff – he remains tour musical chairs champion!! Fantastic city and fantastic golf. One of the best tour groups and a café that you could sit at all day and watch the world go by.
